Dec 11, 2017

DUBBO, Central West, NSW, Australia – A 55-year old tradesman charged with kidnapping and raping an eight year old girl in the Central West on the weekend was refused bail when he appeared in the Dubbo Local Court on Monday.

Police will allege the man, who was working on a house in Wellington, 50 kilometres southeast of Dubbo, persuaded an eight-year-old girl to get into his vehicle about 12.30pm on Saturday. The man drove from the scene.

The girl was reported missing and police from Orana-Mid Western Police District, with the assistance of the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad, initiated an investigation.

Dubbo Local Court was told the man allegedly sexually assaulted the girl before returning her an hour later to where she was taken from.

Police at the scene, who had been searching for the child, arrested the man and took him to Wellington Police Station where he was charged with five offences including kidnapping and engaging in sexual intercourse with a child under the age of 10 years.

The man was brought before the Dubbo Local Court on Sunday, where he was remanded to re-appear in the same court on Monday.

On Monday the man, who police say is from the local area, was once again refused bail and was remanded in custody to appear again in Dubbo Local Court on Wednesday 14 February 2018.
