Man stabbed to death in Dublin, six hour siege follows

DUBLIN, Ireland – A man has been stabbed to death in Dublin culminating in a near-6 hour siege which ended just before midday on Saturday.

A media black-out was in place while a man had barricaded himself inside a house in the Whitechapel Road area of Clonsilla, Blanchardstown, Dublin 15.

The man who died as a result of the stabbing was aged in his 70s. He died following an altercation where he received a number of apparent stab wounds. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The scene is currently preserved for a technical examination.

The man who barricaded himself inside a nearby house is aged in his 40s. No other persons were present in the house at the time of the incident. An Garda Sochna say protocols for a barricade incident were implemented.

The siege which began around 5:55am ended at approximately 11:40am. It ended peacefully after which the man in his 40s was arrested. He is currently detained at Blanchardstown Garda Station.

“All units involved in this incident worked closely under Garda Strategic and Operational Commanders with the strategic intention to ‘contain the incident, preserving life and bring the incident to a peaceful conclusion,'” a gardai statement issued early Saturday afternoon said.
