TRIPOLI, Libya – Forty people are now confirmed dead, and twice that number injured, following an airstrike on a migrant detention centre in the capital on Tuesday night.
Who carried out the strike remained unclear.
A spokesperson for Libya’s health ministry, Malek Merset, said the attack on the migrant centre took place Tuesday night in the Tripoli suburb of Tajoura.
Merset said the death toll was likely to rise due to the seriousness of the injuries.
The unchecked violence and instability that has plagued Libya appears to be unending.
The country has been largely lawless since the fall of Muammar Gaddafi.
Control of the country is divided between the LNA in the east, and the UN-supported (GNA) which controls are area west of Tripoli.
The two factions have been warring with each over since April resulting in the death of more than 650 people and the displacement of around 90,000.
