Ohio reeling as man guns down many in early Sunday morning shooting

DAYTON, Ohio – There have been mulitple deaths and injuries following a second mass shooting to take place in the United States, in less than 24 hours.

Dayton Police have swarmed the scene near Ned Peppers Bar on East Fifth Street in the city of Dayton’s Oregon District where at least nine people have now been confirmed dead, and another 16 injured.

“We had officers in the immediate vicinity when this shooting began and were able to respond and put an end to it quickly,” a Dayton Police statement said early Sunday.

The FBI is also on the scene.

Dayton Police say the shooting took place around 1:00am local time Sunday. They confirm the alleged shooter is dead, at the hands of police.

Police believe the alleged gunman was acting alone and say they are trying to determine a motive.

Anyone that witnessed the shooting or has any information on it that would aid police in their investigation, is asked to call 937-225-6217.

The injured have been taken to local area hospitals, police said.

Dayton Fire is working to set up a Family Assistance Center at the Dayton Convention Center.

Dayton is the sixth largest city in Ohio.

The two mass shootings in the U.S. over the weekend have occurred in cities 1,500 miles apart.

On Saturday a mass shooting at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas left at least twenty people dead and 26 injured.
