WASHINGTON D.C., USA – After the latest meeting in the Rose Garden with representatives of the Democrats, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate minority leader Chuck Shumer, President Trump stated that he is ready to extend the government shutdown for years if needed, with an added statement that he could also declare a national emergency in order to build the US-Mexico wall.
President Trump has been under fire for shutting down federal agencies for about 3 weeks stating that he is doing so for the benefit of the country.
While he does not believe that the shutdown will last for years, Trump says he is ready to make it happen if needed.
An estimated 800,000 federal workers have not been paid since December.
Despite all this, the president has told media that the meeting he had with the Democrats on Friday was very productive.
Federal agencies remain under a shutdown until further notice.
