Road traffic crash on Mitchell Highway in Orange claims life of boy

CENTRAL WEST, NSW, Australia – A 15-year old boy has been killed in a horror triple-vehicle road traffic collision in the New South Wales Central West.

Around 8:15pm Friday night, according to police reports, a BMW hatchback and a Toyota utility collided on the Mitchell Highway in Orange.

A passenger in the Toyota ute, a 15-year old boy went to the aid of the occupants of the BMW when a Prime Mover truck collided with the two vehicles, resulting in the boy’s death.

Officers attached to Central West Police District, NSW Ambulance paramedics, and Fire and Rescue NSW were quickly on the scene.

The driver of the Toyota, a 17-year-old youth, and the occupants of the BMW, a 72-year-old man, and a 71-year-old woman, were taken to Orange Hospital in a stable condition. Their injuries are not considered to be life-threatening.

.A crime scene was established, and the Crash Investigation Unit commenced an investigation.

Both lanes of the Mitchell Highway were closed, while diversions were in place.

An investigation has begun into the circumstances and cause of the crash, in advance of a report to be prepared for the Coroner.
