Aug 11, 2018

CHAMOSON, Switzerland – Leaving residents in a Swiss village shocked, a massive mudslide crashed down a mountain into the village of Grugnay this week.

Earlier this week, heavy rains lashed the area, triggering the heavy flow of water to slide down the dried up mountain.

This formed a massive mudslide as it reached the base, and burst into the streets of the village.

Grugnay village, which lies in the municipality of Chamoson in southwest Switzerland’s Valais region was hit by the gushing slide of sediment, which rushed through waterways and roadways.

Local officials said that the mudslide in Chamoson originated from a mountain stream after the area was ravaged by strong storms.

The mudslides covered entire streets as it sped into open spaces and splattered mud and rocks along its path, leaving cars and properties damaged with earth and debris and blocking off entire areas.

No injuries were reported but the mudslide caused severe damage in the village, leaving the Swiss municipality of Chamoson with a massive cleanup task.
