TEHRAN, Iran – At least 30 vehicles have been destroyed or damaged after six fuel tankers exploded in an industrial town in north-western Iran.
The incident is the latest in a series of explosions and fires that have rocked the nation in recent weeks.
Following the explosion fire swept through nearby vehicles and parts of the town of Dolatabad in Kermanshah province.
“Six fuel tankers caught fire and exploded causing a large fire in a parking lot in Dolatabad,” the ISNA news agency quoted the deputy head of the Kermanshah fire department Keyvan Maleki as saying.
“Fortunately, we did not have any casualties in this incident and only a few people were injured,” said Maleki.
He added that the cause of the incident is under investigation.
Since June numerous unexplained explosions and fires have taken place at nuclear plants, military bases, and industrial sites.
There are unconfirmed reports there was an explosion on Saturday night on Qeshm Island in southern Iran.
On 10 July an explosion rocked the city of Shahr-e Qods in Tehran province and Garmdarreh west of Tehran.
Two people were killed in an explosion at an industrial plant south of Tehran on 7 July.
On 2 July a fire extensively damaged the underground Natanz plant which housed Iran’s uranium enrichment program.
Around the same time nineteen people were killed when an explosion occurred at a medical facility in the northern part of Tehran.
On 26 June 26, east of Tehran near the Parchin military and weapons development base an explosion caused considerable damage.
