Truck and car collide near West Wyalong, passenger in car dies

CENTRAL WEST, NSW, Australia – A collision between a car and a truck in the New South Wales Central West early on Friday morning has claimed the life of a woman.

About 6:05am Friday, emergency services were called to the Newell Highway, near Mirrool, 47 kilometres south of West Wyalong, following reports of a crash.

Upon arrival, officers attached to Murrumbidgee Police District found a car and a truck collided, killing a woman passenger in the car, and leaving the second passenger trapped. The driver of the car was not injured.

With assistance from NSW Ambulance paramedics and Fire and Rescue NSW, the passenger was released and treated at the scene and will be airlifted to hospital.

The driver of the truck was not injured and was taken to Temora Hospital for mandatory testing.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is underway.

The Newell Highway was closed for a lengthy period between West Wyalong and Burley Griffin Way.
