Trump says U.S. planning to reduce troop numbers in Afghanistan

  1. President Donald Trump on Thursday outlined plans for a drawdown of U.S. troops in Afghanistan, and said in a radio interview that China wanted to make a trade deal with the U.S.

Speaking to Fox News Radio, Trump said the U.S. is planning to cut the number of American troops in Afghanistan from 14,000 to 8,600.

As the Associated Press wrote, the president’s comment comes as a U.S. envoy is continuing talks with the Taliban to find a resolution to the nearly 18-year-old war. Trump said the U.S. was “getting close” to making a deal, but that the outcome is uncertain.

Trump took also took a step toward launching his promised Space Force by re-establishing Space Command, which will be responsible for carrying out and planning space operations.

At the beginning of the space event in the White House Rose Garden, Trump announced he’s canceling a planned trip to Poland this weekend to monitor Hurricane Dorian.
