What is the best Aussie Rules market to bet on?

Jun 10, 2020

Aussie Rules is one of Australia’s favorite pastimes with the new season always eagerly anticipated amongst its legion of diehard fans. It has certainly stood the test of time having been around since the late 1850s and despite a few tweaks here and there, the game is still very much the same one that was played 161 years ago on a field at the Richmond Paddock.

There’s little doubt that this game will be around for another 161 years and we’re often seeing new ways of keeping interested in this age-old sport alive. The introduction of online betting, for instance, on fixtures in the AFL has also done its part in drawing in new fans over the last ten years with many punters enjoying a weekend bet on the action.

With so many markets to enjoy, it can often be quite hard to settle on one that stands a decent chance of returning a tidy profit. There is, of course, the long game of the outright winner of the Grand Final which if called correctly, can be a real money turner at the end of the season. Let’s have a look at last year’s winner of the Grand Final, Richmond – they are at 7/2 in Aussie Rules betting to do it again. What can we draw from these odds?

So, when you consider that Richmond demolished the Giants in the 2019 final and are still at over 3/1 odds to win again, you do all of a sudden realize how lucrative this market really is. But here’s the kicker, there have been seven different Grand Final winners since 2010 which suggests that there are no guarantees in Aussie Rules whatsoever.

A look back at the biggest AFL upsets in history will also go a long way in showing how unpredictable the sport can be. With all the pending uncertainty of the final outcome, which let’s be honest, is the reason why we absolutely love Aussie Rules, it can be tough to decide on what betting market to settle on. Step forward over or under.

Essentially, the over/under market is just predicting whether both teams going head to head will either score more than the points offered or less. This takes away the uncertainty of picking a winner and rather, lets you focus and enjoy every point that is scored or every point that isn’t scored if you have opted for under.

But let’s face it, there is nothing better than being a neutral and cheering on good play that results in a high-scoring, adrenaline-pumping affair. That’s why this market is so enjoyable to bet on and increasingly popular with weekend punters who all get together for the big fixtures.

At the end of the day, every punter will have a different Aussie Rules betting strategy that works for them, but if you’re looking for the best market whilst remaining on the fence, the over/under one is sure to deliver. You get all of the enjoyment with none of the stress.
