KATOOMBA, Blue Mountains, NSW, Australia – It has been a tragic weekend on Blue Mountains roads with two fatal crashes on the Great Western Highway, one on Friday night, and the latest late Sunday afternoon.
A three-vehicle crash on Sunday at around 5:00pm on the Great Western Highway near Sinclair Crescent, Wentworth Falls has left a woman dead.
She was driving a Kia Rio sedan. She died at the scene. Her female passenger was airlifted to Westmead Hospital in a serious condition.
The male driver of a Ford Everest SUV and the passengers a woman and three children sustained minor injuries.
They were all taken to Katoomba Hospital with minor injuries where the driver was scheduled to undergo mandatory testing.
The male driver and sole occupant of a Mercedes Benz sustained minor injuries and was also taken to Katoomba Hospital for treatment and mandatory testing.
Officers from the Blue Mountains Police District have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Investigators are appealing for any witnesses, or anyone who has dash cam vision, to come forward.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
Sunday afternoon’s fatal crash followed another three-vehicle crash at Blackheath, in the Blue Mountains on Friday which also left a woman dead.
About 4:00pm Friday afternoon, emergency services were called to the Great Western Highway, near Evans Lookout Road, in Blackheath after a Kia 4WD and a Toyota Camry collided head-on.
Police have been told the Camry struck another vehicle prior to colliding with the Kia.
The driver of the Camry, a woman aged in her 60s, died at the scene.
Two occupants in the Kia, a man and woman, were taken to hospital. The man is believed to be in a critical condition.
The driver of the third vehicle wasn’t injured but was taken to hospital to undergo mandatory testing.
Officers from Blue Mountains Police District have also commenced an investigation into that crash.
