Youth goes berserk in Central West, now facing multiple charges

Sep 24, 2019

CENTRAL WEST, NSW, Australia – A teenager has gone berserk in the state’s Central West, carrying out a burglary, stealing a car, doing several burnouts in multiple locations, before crashing the car and then trying to hijack a motorbike – all in the space of 25 minutes.

The saga began around 7:00am when a 19-year old youth, who appeared to be under the influence of drugs, broke into a home on White Circle in Mudgee and stole a set of car keys and a wallet.

The young man then stole a hatchback sedan which was parked in the driveway of the home, before performing a series of burnouts on the street and then driving off.

The youth drove to an unoccupied housing estate where he performed more burnouts, and in so doing, damaged temporary fencing and the vehicle.

The man then drove to Inglis Street, Mudgee where he crashed the car into the front yard of a home before attempting to steal a second vehicle parked in the driveway of that home.

People living in the house realised what was happening and confronted the young man who fled the scene.

The teenager then entered the car park of a fast food restaurant on Church Street, Mudgee where he attempted to push a man off his motorbike multiple times.

About 7.25am, officers attached to Orana Mid Western Police District arrived and arrested the man.

He was taken to Mudgee Police Station where he was charged with a string of offences.

He was granted strict conditional bail to appear before Mudgee Local Court on Wednesday 6 November 2019.
